What "free" actually means here
Software marketed as free usually means one of three things: a trial that expires, a tier with the useful features removed, or a free product that requires a card and starts billing when you stop paying attention. All three are reasonable business models and none of them is what this is.
Tomcabs Free is €0 per month for a company with one person and one active taxi. There is no expiry date, no card at signup, and no countdown. If you never add a second person or a second vehicle, you never pay and nothing changes.
The feature set is not reduced either. Shifts, races, payment-method breakdowns, expenses, road sheets, balances, documents and your vehicle record all work exactly as they do on a paid plan. The paid plans do not unlock features; they raise the limits on how many people and how many taxis a company can have.
Why a solo driver needs any of this
An owner-driver has no driver balance to settle, which removes the most tedious task in a multi-driver company. What does not go away is everything else: the service record for the vehicle, the split between cash, card and platform revenue, the expenses, and the figures the accountant needs at the end of the quarter.
Most owner-operators handle this with a notebook, a shoebox of receipts, and the platform apps' own earnings screens. It works, in the sense that a return eventually gets filed. It does not work in the sense of telling you, during the year, whether the work is actually paying.
The gap between gross fares and what is left after platform commission, fuel, maintenance and the car itself is where an owner-operator's real income lives, and it is invisible in a notebook. That gap is the reason to record anything at all — and now the recording costs nothing.
What a free account actually includes
You open a shift against your vehicle with the kilometer index, encode races with amounts and payment methods as you go, log expenses when you incur them, and close with the final index. That is the whole daily loop, from your phone.
From it you get road sheets assembled automatically from your shifts and exportable per date, kilometers per period, revenue split across cash, card, Bolt, Uber and invoices, and expenses set against that revenue. Belgian road sheet generation in particular is not withheld from the free plan — it is the single most useful thing the product does for a Belgian operator, and gating it would defeat the point.
Managers and drivers are the same person here, so Tomcabs lets a single account switch between the manager dashboard and the driver view rather than forcing you to pick one.
The exact point at which you would start paying
Two things end the free plan, and both are additions you make deliberately: a second person in the workspace, or a second active taxi. Until you take one of those actions, there is nothing to pay and nothing to cancel.
When you do, Tomcabs blocks the action and shows you which plan covers it rather than adding a charge. Plus is €20 per month for one taxi with an unlimited team. Pro is €50 per month for up to three taxis. Larger fleets are priced individually.
Nothing you recorded while on Free is lost or locked when you upgrade, and nothing is deleted if you decide not to. The history you build as a solo operator is the history your company starts with.
FAQ
Is the Tomcabs free plan a trial?
No. There is no trial period and no expiry date on the free plan. It is €0 per month for as long as your company has one person and one active taxi. A separate 30-day trial exists on the paid Plus and Pro plans, but it has nothing to do with the free plan.
Do I need a credit card to sign up?
No. Signing up and using the free plan never touches a payment provider. A card is only involved if you choose to move to a paid plan later.
Can I generate Belgian road sheets on the free plan?
Yes. Road sheet generation and export are included on the free plan, not reserved for paid tiers. Regional retention requirements are set by Brussels-Capital and Wallonia and should be checked against the official sources.
What is the exact limit of the free plan?
One person in the workspace and one active taxi. Adding a second person of any role — a second driver or a second manager — or a second active vehicle requires a paid plan.
Is the free plan a reduced version of the product?
No feature is withheld. Shifts, races, payment breakdowns, expenses, road sheets, balances and documents all work the same. Paid plans raise the people and vehicle limits rather than unlocking functionality.
What happens if I add a second driver?
Tomcabs blocks the action and shows you which plan covers it. You are never charged automatically and nothing you already recorded is affected.
